I thought this was a very interesting article. A friend of mine is around six weeks pregnant and it's pretty awesome to realize just how developed the baby is even at this early stage of life.

The Value of Life

The pro-life stance finds its truths in both the Bible and in science.

For 30 years, the abortion debate has been one of the most heated and divisive issues in our culture. At one time or another, each of us will probably be asked to defend or explain our positions on the abortion issue. And God commands us to stand strongly for the truth, no matter the cost. In order to become well-informed on the issue, it is necessary to understand the two main disciplines that provide evidence supporting the pro-life stance.

The Bible

The Bible clearly defines human life as created by God and therefore something of great value. Genesis 1:27 says, "God created man in his own image." He is our model. Throughout Scripture, we are encouraged -- to the extent that it is possible -- to fashion our character after His.
Outside the abortion debate, our culture tends to share this conviction that life is extremely valuable. Why else would we send search parties to find a lost hiker or a missing intern when we have no assurance that they're even alive? The main difference in opinion stems from different determinations as to when life begins.

The Lord declares every human life sacred as He begins weaving its tapestry while it is in the womb. Psalm 139:13-16 says,

"For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."

We must boldly stand against the abortion movement that devours lives that God has so amazingly created. In Proverbs 24:11, God commands us to save the innocent, "Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death; don't stand back and let them die ..."

Science

Many in the pro-abortion camp refuse the Bible as a credible source and instead rely upon science as their main source of arguments. One particular line of reasoning continually emerges from the sea of supposed "facts" that they claim to be true: The fetus growing inside a mother's womb is nothing but a little blob of microscopic tissue. If this is true, they claim, then there is nothing wrong or immoral about destroying it. Its life has not yet begun. Or has it?

In fact, there is a wealth of scientific evidence that proves that there is most definitely life before birth. It will amaze you to discover how complex and developed the baby's body already is at such an early stage in life. Here are some amazing facts about the baby's development (provided by www.abortionfacts.com, and www.freedomtolearn.org.)

Only 18 days into a woman's pregnancy, the baby's heartbeat can be detected and one can listen to it with the use of a stethoscope.

After 21 days, the baby's foundations for his organs are apparent.

At only 40 days, the baby's brain waves can be detected.

The child's little hands and feet are perfectly formed at ten weeks. He can hear his mother's heartbeat and her voice and distinguish it from others.

The baby has a completely different and unique genetic make-up code, immune system, and very often a different blood type from his mother.

While in the womb the baby has a sleep/wake cycle that he follows, his taste buds have fully developed, he can swallow, suck his thumb, and breathe the amniotic fluid that he swims in.

He will respond to light, touch, and pain; he leads an active emotional life and can also learn things.

He also has fully developed vocal chords and can cry; yawn, get hiccups, and even smile.
From a biblical perspective, God has made known the truth about the sanctity of human life and our role in protecting it. Scientifically, there is a wealth of evidence proving false the idea that a baby in the womb is just a blob of tissue. Pro-abortionists can no longer hide behind their masks of deceit; a fetus is a life worth protecting.
